I am neither an author nor a theologian. I have no special training or credentials that should make you want to read my blogs or purchase the Warrior book(s). I am simply a Christian who, like many of you, has a story and a testimony to share. I was young when I first became a Christian. I was a child of Christian parents and spent many of my summers with my Granny… Lula Mackey Champion, who lived in a tiny home in Ragland, Alabama. Granny was convinced that the rapture would happen any day – so she dispensed with the childhood bible stories and taught us from the books of Daniel & Revelation at a very early age. I also grew up in a church where the Bible took center-stage in all of its teachings.
In short, I had absolutely no excuse for falling into a spiritual sinkhole as an adult.
Transformation
Later in life, I experienced some material successes and became self-sufficient, self-centered, and reckless. I neglected the spiritual disciplines I had learned growing up. I made a series of sinful choices and irresponsible decisions that hurt, not only me, but also the people whom I loved the most. As my life spiraled out of control God used pain and adversity to get my attention. As I was nearing the bottom of my spiritual barrel, I made decisions that brought me face to face with demonic forces and I learned, first hand, how deep “spiritual warfare” can become.
Wrestling with God
My painful journey led me to study the issue of spiritual warfare at a much deeper level. I discovered many books on the subject and found many to be out of synch with Biblical teaching. What I discovered about the real relationship between Satan, demons, the world culture, and my own fleshly desires was eye-opening and has greatly helped me to navigate some very dark and troubling waters.
Job 42:5-6
Job was not disciplined for his sin. But God used the actions of Satan and 3 of his friends to bring Job face to face with an awesome God who is sovereign over every circumstance in life. His encounter with God led him to the conclusion "I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes".
This passage is my favorite passage because it reminds me that, no matter the cause, God can use our challenges to draw us into a more intimate relationship with Him.
In the words of missionary Jim Elliot
"He is no fool who gives us what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose" -
Battle Scars
Again, I am no theologian. I have no special training. But I have experience and a greater understanding of a Christian life that is defined by spiritual warfare. No matter how shallow or deep you have swum in those shark-infested waters, it is my sincere desire that you can learn from my experiences.
